Paylines, Ways and Cluster Pays

Paylines follow defined paths

A payline game evaluates symbols along routes shown in its rules. Those routes may run straight across the reels or follow other patterns. Check the required direction, the number of matching symbols and whether all lines are active at the selected stake.

Ways evaluate qualifying reel combinations

A ways game checks permitted combinations across reels instead of relying on a fixed list of drawn lines. Dynamic formats can change the arrangement or number of symbol positions. More displayed ways do not, by themselves, tell you a game’s RTP or the chance of winning.

Clusters use a different pattern

Cluster-pay games reward groups of matching symbols under their own connection and minimum-size rules. Some remove winning symbols and bring in replacements; others add further features. Do not assume that every grid game uses identical cluster rules. The paytable for that specific title is the deciding reference.
